The Shots travel to Boundary Park this weekend to face Oldham Athletic in the Vanarama National League.
Known as ‘The Latics’, Oldham were founding members of the Premier League in 1992 whilst Aldershot Town got ready to kick off their first campaign as a phoenix club in the Isthmian League Division Three.
Our hosts currently sit in fifth in the Vanarama National League table with 44 points from their 23 games so far this season, but with games in hand to all the teams above them, can top the table if results go their way.
Mike Fondop is Oldham’s top scorer so far this season with 10 goals, and the forward has also chipped in with five assists to lead the assist charts.
RECENT FORM
Oldham’s last five games have seen them on their travels over the last month with four away games.
The Latics have won two of their last five with victories over Wealdstone and Braintree Town. They’ve also suffered two defeats, being knocked out of the FA Trophy to Stockton and in the Vanarama National League away at Hartlepool.
Their last game was the only draw of the five as their trip to Eastleigh finished level.
- 07/01/25 – Eastleigh 2-2 Oldham Athletic
- 01/01/25 – Hartlepool United 2-1 Oldham Athletic
- 21/12/24 – Braintree Town 0-2 Oldham Athletic
- 14/12/24 – Oldham Athletic 3-2 Wealdstone
- 07/12/24 – Stockton 2-0 Oldham Athletic (FA Trophy)
IN THE DUGOUT
Micky Mellon is the man in charge of Oldham Athletic, having taken the job in October 2023 following the dismissal of David Unsworth.
Mellon’s most notable spells in management have seen him earn double promotions with Fleetwood Town (National League North to League Two) and Tranmere Rovers (National League to League One).
LAST TIME OUT
The meeting earlier this season at the EBB Stadium finished with an emphatic 4-1 win for the Shots.
A James Henry double put the Shots two in front but Regan Ogle’s deflected cross gave the Latics a lifeline.
Tyler Frost restored Aldershot’s two-goal advantage not long after, though, as Theo Widdrington’s late penalty added a fourth.
SINCE WE MET
Oldham’s defeat at the EBB Stadium was the first of their 24/25 season and they’ve lost just twice more this season.
With 10 more wins and seven more draws, Oldham’s ability to avoid defeat has seen them rise up the table into title-race contention.
FORMER SHOTS
Mike Fondop – The striker spent a couple of months on loan at the Shots from Burton Albion at the end of the 20/21 season making four appearances.
