MATCH PREVIEW: Gateshead

The Shots travel up north to take on Gateshead, in a fixture rearranged from Wednesday 9th April, as they aim to continue a push to the playoffs.

The game is the Shots penultimate away game of the 2023/24 season, followed only by Dagenham away on the final day of the season.

LAST TIME OUT

There was nothing to split Gateshead and the Shots as the side came to the EBB Stadium earlier this season. Josh Stokes gave the Shots the lead just before the hour, but Gateshead more than held their own, and Ed Francis settled the game in the 86th minute, as both sides got a point.

The last Shots visit to the Gateshead International Stadium was a successful day out. Ryan Glover gave Aldershot the lead in the 52nd minute, and Justin Amaluzor wrapped the game up on 78 as the Shots were 2-0 victors.

SINCE WE MET

Gateshead will be looking to go one better than last season in the FA Trophy, making the final following victory over Macclesfield on Saturday. The Shots and Gateshead met in late September, the side were eliminated from the FA Cup in the first round by a high flying Yeovil side, but have kept the pace in the National League playoff race.

Gateshead have five to go, and having played 41 games are five points behind third placed Bromley with a game in hand, and Andy Woodman’s side to come on the final day of the season – it is set up for a grand stand finale for Gateshead.

IN THE DUGOUT

Mike Williamson was in charge of the Gateshead when the Shots saw them last at the EBB Stadium, but now former Newcastle teammate Rob Elliot is in charge of the side. Williamson and Elliot both played for Newcastle together between 2011-2015, Elliot playing 68 times, as well as playing over 100 times for Charlton. Gateshead has been Elliot’s first job in management, and he has done a good job of his first season in the National League.
