MATCH PREVIEW: Fylde

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

The Shots are back on the road and are making a long trip up north, facing Fylde this Saturday. The fixture comes after a tight encounter at the EBB in which Shots lost 4-3 but put up a great performance against Chesterfield.

Nicknamed “the Coasters”, Fylde were founded in 1988 as Kirkham & Wesham, and play their home games at Mill Farm.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS

The Shots were on the losing end of results in the 2019/20 season, losing 1-0 after a Danny Philliskirk goal just before the delay in the 19/20 season, and were 2-1 losers at the EBB earlier in the season, George Fowler scoring for the Shots in that one.

The Shots last National League win against Fylde came in 2017, as Shamir Fenelon and Will Evans scored in a 2-1 win for Aldershot at the EBB.

LAST SEASON:

Fylde were promoted from National League North last season, beating Kings Lynn to the title by two points, ending the campaign on 95 points.

Fylde beat Kidderminster in the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup last season, but were knocked out of the first round proper by Gillingham after a replay. Fylde and Kidderminster met again in the FA Trophy third round, but this time Fylde were on the wrong end of the scoreline, losing on penalties to Kidderminster.

23/24 SO FAR:

Fylde currently have 5 points in the National League, having won once and drawn two more times and losing four times to open the campaign.

Their victory came against Kidderminster, and their two draws came against high flying Altrincham and a dramatic two goal comeback against Maidenhead on the opening weekend.

IN THE DUGOUT:

Fylde are currently under the management of Adam Murray. Capped at England U20 level, Murray has spent spells with Barnsley, Boston and Mansfield, most recently in an assistant manager position at Besiktas before joining Fylde last season.

Murray was a journeyman midfielder in his playing days, and made over 450 appearances for 13 different clubs, spending two spells at Notts County, two at Kidderminster Harriers and three at Mansfield, playing over 100 times there between 2010-2015.
