The Shaymen finished 10th last season, with 65 points, five places and 13 points above The Shots.

HOW DID SHOTS GET ON AGAINST THEM LAST SEASON?

Halifax took all six points of Aldershot Town last season, In December 2020, they won 3-1 at the EBB and they completed the ‘double’ with a 1-0 victory at The Shay in March 2021. Earlier this season, in September 2021, they also won at the EBB Stadium, 1-0.

WHO’S THEIR GAFFER?:

38-year-old Royton-born Pete Wild took up coaching at the age of 18. After working for Oldham Athletic for 10 years including time as an interim academy manager, Wild was appointed as Oldham’s caretaker manager on 27 February 2018 following the sacking of Frankie Bunn. After eight matches in charge, (four wins, three losses and one draw) he was replaced by Manchester United legend Paul Scholes. In March 2019, Wild returned as caretaker manager and later that month, he was appointed as the club’s permanent manager on a contract until the end of the season. He left the club for personal reasons in May 2019 before joining Halifax on 24 July 2019 and took them to the play-offs where they lost to Boreham Wood in the eliminator. Last season, they finished four points outside the play-offs.

HALIFAX PLAYING SQUAD:

Familiar faces still at the Shay include; Keeper Sam Johnson, Defender Jack Senior, Midfielder Luke Summerfield and Striker Jamie Allen. Arguably Wild’s best signing to date, is 19-goal Striker Billy Waters, who was rather surprisingly released by Torquay United last summer. Matty Warburton (10 goals in all comps) and Jordan Slew (9) have also provided Wild with plenty of strike power. Zak Dearnley has also chipped in with 4 goals since signing on a short-term contract after departing Oldham Athletic earlier this season.

ANY EX-SHOTS?

Striker Gerry McDonough made 13 appearances for Aldershot Town in the 2018-19 season but failed to find the net for The Shots.

WHO’S GOT THE WHISTLE?

Saturday’s referee is Paul Marsden. This season, he has taken charge of 17 National League matches, showing 51 Yellow Cards and 7 Red Cards. He has refereed Aldershot Town once this season, Shots’ 1-0 defeat at Stockport County in October 2021.
