This weekend the Shots are back in action in the Vanarama National League as they welcome Eastleigh to the EBB Stadium.
The Spitfires will be making an 80-mile round trip from the Silverlake Stadium to the home of the Shots in one of their shortest away trips of the season.
They are in their 10th consecutive National League campaign, and currently sit seventh in the table.
LAST TIME OUT
Eastleigh got the better of the Shots in their last visit to the EBB Stadium in a game that certainly entertained the neutrals. The Shots found themselves 5-0 down but showed great determination to pull the game back to 5-3.
A 3-0 loss at the Silverlake Stadium meant Eastleigh did the double over the Shots in the league last season, but thanks to Jack Barham’s winning spot kick and a Jordi van Stappershoef save, a penalty shootout victory in the FA Trophy Third Round meant the Shots did get the better of Eastleigh on one occasion.
SINCE WE MET
Since Eastleigh’s win at the EBB Stadium in December, they won seven out of their remaining 24 National League fixtures. With their rollercoaster of results throughout the second half of the season, and a new manager, they finished 14th.
The Spitfires have won six of their 13 league games this season, with four losses and three draws meaning they currently have 21 points and are sat in seventh in the National League table.
IN THE DUGOUT
The man in charge of Eastleigh is Kelvin Davis, who took charge of the club in February 2024 before signing a new three-year deal in the summer.
A goalkeeper in his playing days, Davis enjoyed a successful career at the likes of Wimbledon, Ipswich, Sunderland and Southampton.
Upon retirement, he moved into roles behind the scenes at St Mary’s having been appointed as the First Team Football Development Executive in 2016 and a year later was appointed as First Team Coach.
In December of 2018, Davis was then placed in charge of Southampton’s first team side on an interim basis after the departure of Mark Hughes and oversaw one game – a 3-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
