WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?
The Shots continue a three game absence from National League action by travelling to Silverlake Stadium to take on Eastleigh for the second time this season. The game is now a second of three outside of National League action, last weekend facing Stockport at the EBB Stadium in the FA Cup and again facing them on Wednesday in a replay as a result of the 2-2 draw last Saturday.
This time Aldershot will take on Eastleigh in the third round of the FA Trophy. The game actually comes under a similar pattern to last season, as the Shots faced Dorking in FA Trophy and National League action back to back last season, this time it being Eastleigh who the Shots face back to back.
Eastleigh were founded in 1946, 77 years ago, and also go by the name “the Spitfires”, as the Spitfire plane was first flown from Eastleigh Aerodrome. Eastleigh have been in the National League since their promotion to the division in 2014.
LAST TIME OUT:
The last visit to Silverlake Stadium for Tommy Widdrington’s side was an afternoon to forget in front of the TNT cameras, as a red card at 0-0 from Jordi Van Stappershoef meant a combination of strikers took the role of standing between the posts, as Lorent Tolaj and Kwame Thomas could not deny the hosts from scoring as Eastleigh walked away 3-0 winners.
FA TROPHY HISTORY:
Last season Eastleigh made it to the fifth round of the FA Trophy, beating Woking and Braintree Town before crashing out 4-0 at the hands of Maidstone United. Their best FA Trophy performance came in 2013/14 as they were eliminated at the quarter final stage of the competition.
SINCE WE LAST MET:
The first two after Eastleigh’s win against the Shots saw them pick up just one point, and concede 6 as they were 6-0 losers at home to Gateshead. The side have picked up 10 wins in all competitions since our clash, including three victories against Dover, Boreham Wood and a famous win against Reading last time out to send them through to the third round of the FA Cup.
