MATCH PREVIEW: EASTLEIGH (A)

The Shots head down to the south coast this weekend in a matchup against 14th placed Eastleigh, who will be looking to continue momentum after a 2-1 victory at Boston in the Enterprise National League.

Established in 1946, the spitfires have seen a long but prosperous journey through the lower leagues until finally gaining promotion to the National League for the first time in 2013/14. Since then, they have enjoyed their time in the division establishing themselves as solid opponents and never facing relegation since being promoted.

The club’s official nickname ‘the spitfires’ was only introduced in 2005 after a fan-led competition. The name refers to the spitfire aeroplane model that was mass produced in Southampton and first flown out of the Eastleigh Aerodrome.

Current form:
Eastleigh appear to have hit a good run of form just in time for their clash with the shots as they remain unbeaten in their last 4 games, including a recent victory against the shots in the FA Trophy where they managed to cling on throughout an exciting last minute ordeal.

3rd January – Boston 1 – 2 Eastleigh

30th December – Yeovil 1 – 1 Eastleigh

21st December – Gateshead 1 – 3 Eastleigh

13th December – Eastleigh 2 – 1 Aldershot (FA Trophy)

The Dugout:
Former Weston-super-mare boss Scott Bartlett occupies the driving seat for Eastleigh as he looks to enjoy the rest of his first season with the club. Bartlett maintained a prosperous six year stint with Weston-Super-Mare and guided them to become league champions of the National League South in 2022/2023.
It was after this that Bartlett joined the spitfires, although he hasn’t quite picked up right where he left off.

As such, he will be looking to build strong momentum throughout the second half of the campaign to steer the club into the top half of the table.
