MATCH PREVIEW: Eastleigh

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

In a repeat of last weekend’s FA Trophy victory at the Silverlake Stadium, the Shots and Eastleigh will face off again. This time, it’s back to National League action for the Shots and the Spitfires as they play each other for the third time this season, with either side picking up one win in the two previous encounters so far this season.

It’s also a return to National League action for November’s Manager of the Month Tommy Widdrington. A famous FA Cup win at Swindon was capped off by a good display in 1-0 win over Kidderminster as well as a dramatic turnaround at Hayes Lane in a 3-2 win over Bromley and a late late win against Halifax to round off the month.

December so far has been just as good for Widdrington, knocking League Two leaders Stockport out the FA Cup as well as knocking Eastleigh out the FA Trophy.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS AT THE EBB:

Both games this season have been at the Silverlake Stadium, so tomorrow is the first time the sides will meet at the EBB Stadium since a 0-0 draw in October last year. The meeting prior was a 2-0 win for the visitors Eastleigh at the EBB.

In fact, the Shots will be looking to overturn a three year winless drought against the Spitfires at the EBB Stadium, with Aldershot having not beaten the side since early 2020 in a 3-1 win in which goals from Ethan Chislett and Craig Tanner earned the Shots all the points.

A NEW SHOT

Amidst all the drama of the recent weeks we have barely had time to introduce our newest Shot, Ollie Bray. Bray is a physical presence, and joined the Shots from Willand Rovers in the Southern League Divison One South, where he caught the eye with double figures for both goals and assists. He had spent time with Manchester United’s youth sides, and if he turns out anything like the last player Widdrington and Jamie Hedges plucked from the lower leagues (Josh Stokes) then the Shots will have another gem on their hands.

FORMER SHOTS

In with the new but a return of a few old this weekend. Shots fans may remember Paul McCallum from his brief stint at the club in 2012/13, in which he scored 3 times in 9 games and provided one assist, the front man being a danger man wherever he goes in the National League now. McCallum joins Jayden Harris and Jake Taylor as the former Shots who will be returning to the EBB Stadium this weekend.
