MATCH PREVIEW: Dover Athletic v Aldershot Town (A)

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

Dover Athletic, also known as The Whites. Founded 1983

WHERE IS THE MATCH BEING PLAYED?

At Crabble Stadium. Capacity 5,745

HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?

The Whites were the only National League side not to complete the 2020-21 season. As a result they were fined £40k and ordered to start this season on -12 points.

HOW DID SHOTS GET ON AGAINST THEM LAST SEASON?

The two sides only met once last season, at Crabble, in October 2021. The Shots won 5-0 on the evening, with braces from Josh Rees & Mo Bettamer plus one goal from Harry Panayiotou. The result was however, eventually expunged from the records due to Dover not completing the season.

WHO’S THEIR GAFFER?:

55-year-old Andy Hessenthaler took over as Dover Athletic manager in October 2018, following the sacking of long term boss Chris Kinnear. It is Hessenthaler’s second spell in charge of The Whites, having won 101 of his 154 games in charge in his first spell with the club (2007-2010). A former player himself, Hessenthaler made almost 500 combined appearances at Watford & Gillingham. He has also managed Gillingham, Leyton Orient and Eastleigh.

WHO’S DEPARTED?

Amongst the many players that left Crabble following the end, or the early termination of their contracts last season, were defenders Josh Passley & Will De Haviland, Midfielders Oscra Gobern & Jack Munns and forwards Ahkeem Rose & Steven Rigg.

WHO’S STAYED?

Just five players remained at Dover in the close season. They were keeper Josh Bexon, Left Back Sam Wood, midfielders TJ Bramble & Marshall Wratten and winger Travis Gregory.

WHO’S ARRIVED?

Hessenthaler has brought 17 new faces into his playing squad for the 2021-22 season. The most familiar of which will doubtless be Ricky Miller, who was of course at Aldershot Town last season. Also arriving at Crabble are keeper Adam Parkes (season loan from Watford), defenders Seth Twumasi (Maidenhead) & Danny Collinge (Colchester), Koby Arthur (Birmingham) & Ryan Hanson (Hull) and forwards Ben Williamson (Bromley) & Aaron Cosgrove (season-loan from Wimbledon).

ANY EX-SHOTS?

Apart from Ricky Miller, Centre Back Jake Goodman played 21 times for Aldershot Town – on loan from Millwall – in the 2013-14 season.

WHO’S GOT THE WHISTLE?

Tuesday evening’s referee is Robert Massey-Ellis. This season, he has taken charge of 4 National League matches, showing 21 Yellow Cards and 0 Red Cards. He has already refereed Aldershot Town this season, in the 3-2 defeat at Notts County.
