MATCH PREVIEW: Dagenham & Redbridge (A)

After a successful weekend at The EBB Stadium against Altrincham, Tommy Widdrington’s Red and Blue’s are back on the road. The side will travel to the ground they ended their 2023/24 campaign at, taking on Dagenham & Redbridge at The Chigwell Construction Stadium.

The game will take place at 7:45PM on Tuesday night.

The Daggers are currently 13th in the Vanarama National League, with five wins and 22 points in their opening 18 games of the season. Dion Pereira is their top scorer so far this season, having scored eight times.

The side pulled off an impressive victory away at Football League side Crewe, before beating West Bromwich Albion U21s in the National League Cup. However, the side are winless in the National League since October 19th.

IN THE DUGOUT

44-year-old Ben Strevens is currently the manager of Dagenham, having been at the club since March 2023. Strevens played for Dagenham on two occasions during his career, firstly playing with the Daggers in 2008 and rejoining them in 2013.

The former Gillingham, Whitehawk and Wycombe man also played for Eastleigh, with whom he started his managerial career. He was manager of Eastleigh until January 2022. In March 2023, Strevens joined the Daggers, where he has remained since. In his first season he finished 10th, and in his first full season, last season, finished 15th

LAST TIME OUT

The last time Aldershot visited The Chigwell Construction Stadium came on the final day of the 2023/24 season. Former Shot Inih Effiong opened the scoring just after the 30 minute mark, and his goal was all that split the sides at the interval.

Cian Harries scored from the spot just after half time, and on his final game for the Shots, Lorent Tolaj gave Tommy Widdrington’s side the lead with just under 20 minutes to go. There would be yet another twist in the tale, as Ryan Hill and Dion Pereira scored for the hosts and put them ahead with 93 minutes to go.

With the game all but over, the Shots won a free kick just outside the area, and Josh Barrett stepped up and put an effort perfectly into the back of Dagenham’s net to end the game in a draw.

FORMER SHOTS

Frank Vincent – Frank spent the first half of the season on loan from Notts County in 2022/23 before returning to Nottingham for the second half of the season. Vincent played 20 times for the Shots

Josh Rees – Rees played 39 times and scored 12 goals in the National League during the 2020/21 season. Rees only spent one season at The EBB Stadium, joining Boreham Wood in the summer of 2021.
