After really poor start, the Spireites made a managerial change and climbed to 6th place by the season end, qualifying for the Play-Offs. last season, with 69 points, then losing to Notts County in the ‘Eliminator’.

 

HOW DID SHOTS GET ON AGAINST THEM LAST SEASON?

Aldershot Town picked up just one point against Chesterfield last season, with a 0-0 draw at the Technique Stadium, despite Alfy Whittingham’s 82nd minute sending off. At the EBB Stadium in March, an Alex Whittle goal saw the Spireites take all three points with a 1-0 win.

 

WHO’S THEIR GAFFER?:

38-year-old James Rowe took the helm at Chesterfield in November 2020, with the Spireites sitting in the bottom four of the National League. He consequently led them to the Play-Offs. Rowe previously managed National League North side Gloucester City and is a former Assistant Manager at Aldershot Town, having worked alongside Gary Waddock, leading The Shots to back-to-back Play-Off campaigns.

 

WHO’S DEPARTED?

8 players left Chesterfield prior to the season start and a few more since. They include former Shot’ Will Evans, Tom Whelan, Kairo Mitchell, Scott Boden, Jack McKay, Grant Smith and Joel Taylor.

 

WHO’S STAYED?

Laurence Maguire, Gavin Gunning, Curtis Weston, Liam Mandeville Manny Oyeleke and strikers Danny Rowe & Akwasi Asante, all remain at the club.

 

WHO’S ARRIVED?

Amongst Rowe’s pre-season additions, are key signings; Keeper Scott Loach (from Barnet), Midfielder Jack Clarke (Aston Villa – now out injured for the remainder of 21-22 season) and Striker Kabongo Tshimanga (Boreham Wood), who is the National League’s top scorer with an incredible 23 goals to date. Rowe’s most recent additions include Midfielder Luke Croll (unattached) and the versatile Tyrone Williams, from Solihull Moors.

 

ANY EX-SHOTS?

Both Jim Kellermann & Oyeleke played under Rowe & Waddock in Play-Off campaigns at Aldershot Town. Tshimanga made 2 substitute appearances for The Shots’ in 2015, at the age of 18, on loan from MK Dons, whilst Stefan Payne made just one appearance for Aldershot Town, in 2012.

 

WHO’S GOT THE WHISTLE?

Saturday’s referee is Andrew Miller. This season, he has taken charge of 6 National League matches, showing 34 Yellow Cards and 0 Red Cards. He hasn’t refereed Aldershot Town. He took charge of Chesterfield’s 4-2 home win against Barnet earlier this season.
