MATCH PREVIEW: Chesterfield

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

Aldershot Town line up for one final time before Christmas as they travel up north to take on National League leaders Chesterfield. The game comes following last weekend’s defeat to Eastleigh, where a resillient performance ended a run which hadn’t seen the Shots lose at the EBB Stadium since the visit of Chesterfield earlier in the season.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS:

It was a tense affair when Aldershot and Chesterfield met at the EBB Stadium earlier this season, and fans certainly got their moneys worth. Josh Stokes opened the scoring for the Shots, before Ryan Colclough levelled and goals from Tom Naylor and Will Grigg had Chesterfield 3-1 ahead. However, Jack Barham had his say, and forced the game back to 3-3, before Joe Quigley left it late to win it for Chesterfield.

This fixture has not been very kind to the Shots, with the side having not beaten Chesterfield since 2010 when they were 1-0 winners over Chesterfield at the SMH Group Stadium.

23/24 SO FAR:

Chesterfield are runaway leaders at the top of the National League table, having picked up 56 points in 22 games, dropping points on just four occasions, losing twice and drawing twice. In fact, Chesterfield have only dropped points twice since August in a draw to Maidenhead and a loss against Southend.

The Spireites are into the third round of the FA Cup, beating Kettering in the first round before beating League One sides Portsmouth and Leyton Orient and have been drawn away to Championship side Watford in the next round. The side are also in the fourth round of the FA Trophy, having beaten Southport in the third round.
