MATCH PREVIEW: Boreham Wood v Aldershot Town

It’s a quick turnaround for Aldershot Town as they take on Boreham Wood on Tuesday away at Meadow Park! Both sides will be looking to overcome disappointing defeats as they continue with National League action.

Shots Squad:

Manager Danny Searle is expected to have a fully fit playing squad to choose from, barring James Rowe and George Fowler, who has recently picked up a previous injury that sees him out for the foreseeable future.

Opposition:

Name: Boreham Wood

Founded: 1948

Nickname: The Wood

Manager: Luke Gerrard

Stadium: Meadow Park

Final position last season: 20th in National League

Current National League position: 14th

Brief History:

The club was established in 1948 as a merger of Boreham Rovers and Royal Retournez, and began playing in the Mid-Herts League.  In the 2017–18 FA Cup Boreham Wood beat Football League opposition for the first time, defeating Blackpool 2–1 at home in the first round. In the second round they lost 3–0 at Coventry City. The club went on to finish fourth in the National League at the end of the season, qualifying for the play-offs. After beating AFC Fylde 2–1 and Sutton United 3–2, they lost 2–1 to Tranmere Rovers in the Wembley final.

The Gaffer:

Luke Garrard is a popular figure with Wood fans after notching 140 appearances for the club as a player from 2010-2015, before turning his head to management. The 34 year-old has continued his managerial journey with Boreham Wood for the last four years at the helm at Meadow Park.

Squad:

One of the many new additions which Garrard made in the summer was Adam McDonnell, formerly of Aldershot Town. The midfielder has started most matches for the North London club so far this term, grabbing a goal in the process. However, one major departure saw goalkeeper Ryan Huddart depart on a  free transfer to current league leaders Bromley FC.

Referee:

Tomorrow’s referee is Matthew Russell, who has taken charge of 5 National League matches so far this season, with his most recent fixture being Stockport County’s 1-0 away victory last Saturday over Dover Athletic.

Commentary:

There will be live BBC Surrey Sport commentary of Saturday’s game, with Rob Worrall and former Shots midfielder Damon Lathorpe from 7:30pm. To interact with the commentary team, tweet @RobShot66.
