The Shots return to action at the EBB stadium for a Tuesday night clash with 4th placed Boreham Wood in the Enterprise National League. After a tough period of five consecutive defeats, John Coleman’s side will look to pick up an important three points to steer them further away from the drop zone.
Established in 1948, the Wood have climbed up the divisions in the lower tiers, coming from humble beginnings in local leagues. Despite success, they are yet to reach the heights of the EFL and will be hopeful of an inaugural induction next season after looking like healthy candidates for a play off spot.
Cup competitions are something that have produced some very memorable moments throughout the club’s history. They recently made it to the fifth round of the FA Cup in 2022, beating EFL opponents AFC Wimbledon and AFC Bournemouth before falling just short to premier league giants Everton in a 2-0 defeat. One of the Club’s proudest accomplishments however occurred in the FA Trophy, where they currently hold the title for the lowest ranked team to reach the semi-finals. Clearly Saturday’s opponents love a run in the FA Trophy almost as much as the Shots!
RECENT FORM
Tuesday night’s opponents currently sit 4th in the Enterprise National League and have seen a mixed run of results in recent games. The Wood have picked up 10 points in their last 6 games, a number on the lower end of the spectrum for those in the top 7 spots and have suffered 2 defeats in that time, showing that they are very much beatable at the moment.

7th Mar – Boreham Wood 5 – 3 Brackley

REVERSE FIXTURE AND PREVIOUS MEETINGS
There have been 20 meetings between ourselves and Boreham Wood over the years, including 9 victories and 7 defeats. Some memorable games include a 6 goal thriller that ended 3-3 back in 2021, as well as a 2-0 victory for the Shots in their road to lifting the FA Trophy last year.
Last time out in the Enterprise National League ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat for the Shots, with Pat Nash putting in an effort to keep his side in the game. However it was not quite enough as the Shots were unable to find an equaliser, and continued to chase the game after conceding an early goal.
IN THE DUGOUT
On Tuesday night we welcome Luke Gerrard to the opposing technical area, who has been at the helm since the summer of 2024. Gerrard returned to Boreham Wood for a second stint in charge, just 9 months after leaving from his nine year tenure. During his time, he has built a positive reputation for himself after experiencing much success with the Wood, particularly due to cup success and his history as a former Boreham Wood player. In fact, it was at the club that Gerrard finished his playing career and swiftly took over as manager in 2015, marking him as the youngest professional manager in the top five tiers at the time.
Aside from his managerial accomplishments with Boreham Wood, Gerrard enjoyed a fruitful playing career for the likes of Swindon, Northwood and AFC Wimbledon. During his time at Wimbledon, he helped the club to victory over the National League South division in 2009 as well as reaching the play-offs in the previous season. He was also honoured with the young player of the year award in the 2006/7 season.
KEY PLAYERS TO WATCH
Matt Rush:
With 31 goal contributions in all competitions this season, Matt Rush has proved himself to be a prolific striker. This is the highest scoring season of his career and the first time he has found proper scoring form in the Enterprise National League. A dynamic forward who can contribute more than just goals to his game, the Shots will look to nullify the threat from this man and rush to stop him should he find too much time on the ball.
Lewis Richardson:
Operating as the core creative component in the midfield, Richardson has helped to conjure up countless attacks for his side and get them swiftly on the front foot. The young attacker has is not afraid to take risks, which has so far played in his favour as he has found the net 10 times this season as well as recording 4 assists. The Shots will need to look out for play going through him as he has been a consistent offensive cog in the Boreham Wood setup.
