Aldershot Town travel to South Hertfordshire this midweek for an Enterprise National League fixture against an in-form Boreham Wood side to be contested on the evening of Tuesday, 4th November.
Founded in 1948, ‘the Wood’ competed the entirety of the 20th century at step three or lower. However, since their promotion from the Isthmian League Premier in 2010, the club haven’t looked back, enjoying their 16th successive season as part of the National League 72.
After a heartbreaking goalless draw at home to Ebbsfleet United on the final day of the season saw the side relegated by a mere point in 2023/24, the club experienced quick vindication, bouncing back at the first time of asking last term. An incredibly dramatic play-off run, including a normal-time victory over Dorking despite having trailed 3-1 as late as the 83rd minute, culminated in a 1-0 victory against Maidstone United, Charles Clayden scoring the only goal in front of a sold out home crowd.
Since their return to step-one, it is fair to say that the Wood have exceeded expectations, currently sitting 4th in the National League table, with 32 points from 16 games.
RECENT FORM
If their league form wasn’t impressive enough, Boreham Wood come into this home tie with the confidence of having defeated League Two strugglers Crawley 3-0 in the FA Cup at the weekend.
- 01/11/25 – Boreham Wood 3-0 Crawley Town (FA Cup)
- 25/10/25 – Forest Green 2-1 Boreham Wood
- 21/10/25 – York City 2-2 Boreham Wood
- 18/10/25 – Boreham Wood 2-0 Eastleigh
- 11/10/25 – Eastbourne Borough 0-3 Boreham Wood (FA Cup)
Something of a revelation this campaign, 24-year-old forward Matt Rush is the inarguable danger man, having netted eight goals in as many games since late-September.
IN THE DUGOUT
Enjoying his second stint at Meadow Lane, be it as player or manager, Luke Garrard has been a key figure at the Hertfordshire club for a near-uninterrupted 16 year spell.
The 39-year-old took over at Meadow Lane following the club’s promotion to the National League and after almost a decade had taken them to Wembley in a Playoff final, reached the Semi-Finals of the Playoffs on two other occasions, and led his side out at Goodison Park in the FA Cup Fifth Round.
Garrard left the club following their relegation from the National League in 2024, but returned to the Meadow Lane dugout just a few months later after his successor Ross Jenkins was sacked, not only returning the Wood to the fifth-tier, but proceeding to then guide them to the healthy league position they find themselves in today.
FORMER SHOTS
Callum Reynolds – Like Garrard, the club’s current captain is amid his second spell with the side, initially leaving the Wood for Aldershot Town in 2016.
Making almost 100 appearances for the Shots between his arrival and 2018, the defender is remembered extremely fondly in North Hampshire, having been ever present for successive 5th place finishes in the National League.
