MATCH PREVIEW: Altrincham v Shots (A)

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

Following The Shots emphatic victory over Halifax, Aldershot are back on the road for a trip to Altrincham. The Robins are currently bottom of the National League after a winless start to the season, with Shots looking to improve on the 5-1 victory last Saturday.

HOW DID THEY DO LAST SEASON?

Altrincham finished 14th last campaign, ending the season on 55 points, 12 points ahead the Shots and and 19 points ahead of the first relegation spot occupied by Kings Lynn in 21st. Altrincham made it to the first round proper of the FA Cup, being knocked out via replay by Gateshead, and were knocked out in the third round of the FA Trophy by Notts County, losing 2-1 away from home.

HOW DID WE GET ON AGAINST THEM LAST SEASON?

Shots and Altrincham met in December and shared the spoils at the EBB, with Alfy Whittingham and Mohamed Sylla putting Aldershot 2-0 up, before Toby Mullarkey and Ryan Colclough pulled the game level to give both sides a point. Shots were less fortunate when the sides met again, losing 1-0 to a Dan Mooney 87th minute winner at the J. Davidson Stadium.

WHO IS THEIR GAFFER?

Current Altrincham manager is 41-year-old Phil Parkinson, and he has been in charge of the squad since April 2017. The tie this weekend will be Parkinson’s 98th game in charge of the side. Parkinson previously managed Nantwich Town between February 2015 and April 2017, eventually leaving his role to join Altrincham.

ALTRINCHAM SQUAD UPDATE:

Altrincham endured a mass turnover last summer, firstly losing Steven Drench and Shaun Densmore through retirement. Warrington picked up Altrincham trio Andy White, Tony Thompson and Tom Hannigan, with Natwich Town signing the duo Ritchie Sutton and AJ Leitch-Smith. Chester snapped up Kole Hall and Jamie Morgan, and Curzon Ashton signed Josh Hancock and Connor Hampson. Kyle Ferguson was the only member of the squad to jump up the leagues, joining Harrogate Town in League Two.

Edward Jones, Chris Conn-Clarke, Dan Malone, Dermot Mee and Aaron Bennett all joined the squad on loan, with Bennett set to return to his parent club at the end of October, the other four departing on January 1st. Chris Conn-Clarke has made the most appearances of the loanees, with nine so far.

Of the new signings, Josh Lundstram from Crewe Alexandra has made the most appearances, playing in all nine of the opening fixtures. James Jones has the next most appearances, with eight and Lewis Baines has made six. New pair Jake Cooper and Jordan Hulme have both made five.

Of the squad from last season, Elliot Osborne, Toby Mullarkey, Ryan Colclough and Marcus Dinanga have all played in all of the opening fixtures, meaning they can be expected to feature tomorrow.

ANY EX-SHOTS?

None of the Altrincham or Aldershot squad have ever played for both sides.
