MATCH PREVIEW: Aldershot Town v Weymouth FC

After picking up their fifth win in six (in all competitions) at Wealdstone on Saturday, by the odd goal in seven, Aldershot return to the EBB Stadium on Tuesday looking for a third consecutive National League victory. Weymouth are the visitors and they come into Tuesday evening’s game on the back of an excellent 1-0 home success over high-flying Hartlepool United.

Lewis Kinsella, Craig Tanner and Ross McCormack all continue to make good progress in their rehabilitation from long term injuries. knee injury. Ricky Miller missed Saturday’s trip to Wealdstone and is a doubt for Tuesday, as is Harry Panayiotou. Skipper Jamie Sendles-White returned to the bench on Saturday.

The Gaffer: 39-year-old Brian Stock, a Welsh International back in his playing days, was appointed Manager of the Terras in Setpember 2020, following the departure of former Shots favourite Mark Molesley, who left to take charge of League Two Southend United. Stock made 500+ appearances across a twenty-year playing career, most notably for Bournemouth, Doncaster Rovers and Havant & Waterlooville.

Departed:

There were very few departures from the Bob Lucas Stadium following Weymouth’s promotion to the National League and Molesley’s departure. Stock would though, have to tackle the club’s first season back in the top tier of Non-League without fellow wingers Abdulai Baggie, who joined Eastleigh and Yemi Odubade (Eastbourne Borough). Stephane Zubar joined Yeovil and former Shots striker Brett Williams moved into a Player-Coach role at Totton.

Retained:

Stock originally retained 13 players from last season’s promotion squad, although Tom Whelan has since departed to join Chesterfield. Players retained include; Left Back Ollie Harfield, Midfielder Josh Wakefield, Utility player Jake McCarthy and former Shots forward Josh McQuoid.

Arrived:

There have been 12 new arrivals at Weymouth since Stock took the reins. Alefe Santos moved from the EBB to the Bob Lucas along with another player that appeared for Shots on loan last season, Hartlepool United Centre-Back Myles Anderson. Other notable incomings included forwards Cody Cooke (St Mirren) and Sean Shields (Ebbsfleet United).

Form:

The Terras have had a tough start to life in the National League and have so far picked up 12 points from their 17 games played. There three wins came against Kings Lynn (2-1), Stockport County (2-1) and on Saturday v Hartlepool United (1-0) thanks to a Josh McQuoid strike. They have also drawn with Eastleigh (twice) and Altrincham on the opening day of the season.
