MATCH PREVIEW: AFC Fylde (H)

The Shots return to Vanarama National League action with the visit of AFC Fylde this weekend.

Our visitors have made an almost 500-mile round trip from the Lancashire town of Wesham, where they play their home games at Mill Farm.

The Coasters currently occupy 20th in the Vanarama National League, having picked up 28 points from their 29 games. They’ve won eight of their games so far this season but have picked up 17 losses and have the second-worst defensive record in the division having conceded 59 goals.

Their top scorer this season is Nick Haughton who has netted 14 of their 35 goals in the Vanarama National League this season and the midfielder also tops their assist chart having assisted 9 of the other 21.

RECENT FORM

AFC Fylde’s past five games have seen them pick up two wins and three losses with all five fixtures coming in the Vanarama National League.

They will be coming into this weekend’s trip off the back of a 2-1 win away to FC Halifax Town but lost their previous two away trips at Southend United and Maidenhead United.

The Coasters’ other victory came at Mill Farm in a 2-0 win over Wealdstone, but in their most recent game at home, they fell to a 2-1 defeat to Oldham Athletic.

IN THE DUGOUT

Former England international and Premier League goalscorer Kevin Phillips occupies the visiting dugout this weekend.

Phillips’ playing career saw him scoring goals for a host of sides in England’s top division but is probably most notable for winning the European Golden Shoe award for his 30 Premier League goals with Sunderland in the 99/00 season.

The 51-year-old has been in charge of AFC Fylde since October 2024 and follows spells at South Shields and Hartlepool United.
