MANarama’s September assessment: The Shots’ month goes under the microscope!

League sponsors Vanarama hope you will get involved as MANarama makes a very big return!

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly…

A classic up-and-down month left fans unsure which Aldershot side would take to the field. The highs of beating Wrexham and Stockport County were tempered in particular by defeats to Barrow and Chesterfield.

What about the rest last month?

It’s been another relentless month with games coming thick and fast. Yeovil have shocked everyone – they won all six last month but it was Bromley still leading the way by a point. It’s not been too bad for Barrow either – five straight wins is their best run since 1968. The winless clubs were Maidenhead and Woking. Wrexham, meanwhile, lost patience with manager Bryan Hughes.

Shots high point?

Winning very late against Wrexham. There’s a reason why it was so important….

Stat attack:

…that’s because it was the first home victory on a Saturday since Braintree were beaten at the EBB back in November 2018. Wrexham said goodbye to their manager days later.

From the dug-out:

Danny Searle knows the score. “I’m bored of saying it,” he said. “The fans are bored of me saying it. We just need to put the ball in the back of the net.”

How do things compare to last September?

Weirdly similar, actually. Two wins and four defeats was the record in September 2018 too. Spooky.

Strikers blazing a trail:

Hot shot Boreham Wood striker Kabongo Tshimanga also managed to score six times in September alone. He has nine, as does Torquay United’s Jamie Reid. Barrow have a lethal attacking duo – both Scott Quigley and John Rooney have eight each.

Who does October look?

In a word, important. Only one of the five opponents sit in the top half of the table. The Shots know how to play away from home and they need to be positive at bottom club Chorley. Then it’s a trip to Dover, who have only won once at home this season. A big few weeks are coming your way!
