After undergoing a number of scans over the last week, we can confirm that Christian Maghoma has sustained a ruptured achilles after being taken off in the first-half of our pre-season fixture against Wycombe Wanderers.
It’s likely the centre back will unfortunately be out of action for a long time and is likely to miss a large part of the 23/24 campaign.
Christian will be undergoing surgery with a well-renowned specialist surgeon on Tuesday and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.
First-Team Sports Therapist Liam Charles says “Christian has responded well to the early stages of rehab.”
“He’s working hard to begin his journey back to full fitness and although it’s going to be a fairly long process, we’re all going to put in the maximum effort to get him back to play some part this season.
“Christian’s a very determined and strong character who I’m confident will put his all into his recovery and has already looked at an unfortunate situation in positive light.”
Maghoma doesn’t want it to define his career negatively, saying: “I’m gutted to have started my Aldershot career this way but I’m completely focused on fighting back to fitness now.”
“I’ve got to take it one day at a time but I pray I’m back to play a big part in the season to some capacity!”
We’re all behind you, Mags!
