Hampshire Senior Cup 2nd Round: Shots v Tadley Calleva

Aldershot Town travel to Sydenham Wessex League Division One side Tadley Calleva in the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night, 8 September at 7.45pm.

Chris Barker will lead the squad, which also features goalkeeper Dan Thomas alongside members of The Shots’ Knights Group Academy Under 19 side, and be assisted by Academy Manager Lee Collier.

Danny Dolan’s team beat Hartley Wintney in the first round last week, winning 9-8 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, and followed that with a thumping 6-0 FA Vase first qualifying round victory against Woodley United on Saturday. They will now face Chertsey Town in the second qualifying round.

Two goals each for Brett Denham and Ryan Stephens – both of whom had missed the Hartley Wintney game – helped beat Woodley, with James Tennant and Grant Powell also on the scoresheet. Denham is top scorer with five goals already, followed by Tennant and Stephens with three each.

Tadley are currently 12th in Division One – with a win, a draw and a defeat from their opening three matches – but have one or two games in hand on all but one of the sides above them. A comfortable opening day victory at Romsey was followed by a thrilling draw against Amesbury – in which Calleva scored two late goals to recover from 3-1 down – and a 4-1 defeat at United Services Portsmouth.

They have also already been knocked out of the FA Cup, after a 3-2 Extra Preliminary round defeat to Guildford City in which they went 3-0 down and nearly staged a dramatic comeback.

Kick-off at Barlows Park, on Silchester Road, Tadley (postcode RG26 3PX) is 7.45pm.
