FA Trophy First Round: East Thurrock United v The Shots

Aldershot Town will travel to East Thurrock United in the Buildbase FA Trophy first round on Saturday 10 December.

The Rocks beat Nikki Bull’s Margate 2-0 in Tuesday night’s replay at the FutureFuel Stadium and now host The Shots for the first time since October 1992.

After Saturday’s game ended 1-1 thanks to two penalty kicks in either half, East Thurrock United, managed by John Coventry, secured progress with two goals from the prolific Sam Higgins, who also scored in the original tie.

The Rocks are currently eighth in National League South, on 28 points from 19 games. Higgins was the top non-league scorer in the country last season, with 38 goals, as East Thurrock United won promotion to National League South via the Ryman League Premier Division Play-Off Final.

We will confirm fixture details, including ticket prices, as soon as possible.

Aldershot Town will be looking to progress to the Second Round for the first time since 2014, but have twice reached the Semi-Final of the competition, in 2004 and 2008, losing to Hednesford Town and Ebbsfleet United respectively.

The FA Trophy is once again part of the FA’s Non-League Finals Day, which sees both the FA Trophy and FA Vase Finals played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 21 May. Full details, including ticket prices, are here.
