We’re delighted to announce that Stuart O’Keefe has been named as Club Captain for the 23/24 season with Aaron Jones named as Vice Captain.
O’Keefe signed for the Shots this summer and was one of various players to skipper the side during pre-season.
The 32-year-old was captain at previous club Gillingham and has spoken of his honour to be given the captaincy at Aldershot Town.
“It’s always an honour to captain any football club and it’s a role I take on with great pride. It’s a role I’ve done before at previous clubs and it’s something I’ve enjoyed.”
“I’ll do my utmost to help get the best out of this group of players and ultimately the team to have a successful season which is what we all want.”
“Thanks to the gaffer for giving me this responsibility. I’ll give it my all.”
Aaron Jones also signed for the Shots this summer and was the first of the first-team squad to wear the armband in a pre-season loss to Eastbourne Borough.
He added: “It’s a real honour to be named as vice captain of the Shots and I want to congratulate Stu on being named as skipper. He’s played at the very top level and I’m excited to work with him on leading the group towards a successful campaign this season.”
“We both want to be part of a team that the fan base can be proud of and a team which personifies the spirit of Aldershot as a town. A big thanks to the gaffer and his staff for giving me this opportunity.”
Tommy Widdrington said: “Whilst I’ve had a few names rattling around in my head, once Stuart joined us, I was fairly set with my choices.”
“Stuart is a very experienced leader who has captained sides in the EFL and who I’m sure will guide the younger lads through anything they feel they haven’t experienced (because he probably has!).”
“AJ, having worked with Hugo & I before, knows exactly what I expect on and off the field; both individually and collectively, and I’m sure has already had a big influence on the general change of approach/mind set in the dressing room.”
