Albert Mundy

We had two special guests at last week’s home game against Barrow when Ian & John Mundy, sons of former Aldershot FC forward Albert Mundy, presented the club with Albert’s original Aldershot FC contract.

Mundy made 136 appearances for Aldershot FC between 1958 and 1960 before joining Southern League side Guildford City, he also spent time at Football League clubs Portsmouth and Brighton & Hove Albion before he joined Aldershot.

He is most remembered for his goal for the Shots against Hartlepools United in 1958, which was scored just six seconds into the game, it remains a joint-EFL record to this day and at the time was the fastest ever goal recorded in world football.

Albert sadly passed away in 2002 and the club are honoured to receive his original contract from his family.

Shots Director Waleed Khan had this to say: “It was a great honour to meet Ian & John last week when they presented the club with their father, Albert Mundy’s original Aldershot FC contract from 1958 and newspaper cutting for the world record of the quickest goal to ever be scored in the Football League, a record that proudly still stands today.

“This again shows that we are about our community and we take great pride in receiving this wonderful memento of days gone by when £11 a week was a big wage! Thank you again to both Ian & John.”
