Nick Cansfield has been an avid fan of Aldershot FC since his school friend, Matthew Brown, took him to his first game in the 1979/1980 season, and he is a firm believer that football is a live experience, rather than something to watch on the television from the comfort of your armchair.
As one of the dedicated band of football fans up and down the country who actually do prefer to stand on half-empty terraces in the pouring rain, Slab Life and Slab Life 2 document the adventures of going to matches, the pre-match excitement and the general rubbish that football fans talk as their early optimism soon gets replaced by another defeat.
Nick worked as a senior member of the HR function for companies within the Agribusiness and Financial Services sectors before he realised that working life was getting in the way of travelling to football matches and in 2020 (very) early retirement arrived. Seizing the opportunity of the freedom that retirement offered, a deal was struck that allowed Nick to go to every game of the 2021/2022 season that is documented in Slab Life 3.
