Biography

Russ was appointed as the First Team Fitness Coach/Sport Scientist on a full time basis on the arrival of Dean Holdsworth in January 2011. He has worked part time for the club since 2005 and was part of the backroom staff under Gary Waddock for the Conference winning campaign of 2007/08.

Previously he has worked as Fitness trainer to Bristol Rovers whilst also serving in the British Army. He was a member of the Royal Army Physical Training Corps for 14 years, during a 23-year career.

Russ hold several fitness related qualifications including FA Fitness Trainer and FA Diploma in the Treatment and Management of Injuries. He also completed an MSc in Applied Sport Science in 2010 at St Mary’s University, Twickenham and more recently a further MSc in Sports Therapy at Leeds Beckett University. He is a certified member of the Society of Sports Therapists.

Russ is a former Army and National Age Group Triathlon Champion and has represented the Great Britain Age Group Triathlon team at two World Championships. He now competes in Ironman distance events.
