#WearTheWig on Non-League Day

National League sponsors Vanarama, the UK’s largest independent commercial vehicle broker, have joined Prostate Cancer UK in launching their #WearTheWig campaign for Non-League Day 2015.

Next Saturday, 10 October, is the sixth annual Non-League Day and this initiative follows 2014’s successful ‘Thumbs Up For Non-League Day’ which raised £7735 for the charity.

Vanarama is supporting Prostate Cancer UK’s pledge campaign with a series of big ticket pledges to raise money and drive attendances on Non-League Day. #WearTheWig aims to amplify the pledge campaign by challenging football personalities, teams and fans to get involved and #WearTheWig for Prostate Cancer UK.

To help raise even more money this year, Vanarama are donating £100 to Prostate Cancer UK for every National League club who tweet a photograph of players and coaching staff wearing a special wig in the build-up to Non-League Day.

Supporters can get involved, with £10 donated to Prostate Cancer UK for every photograph of them wearing an orange wig on Non-League Day that is tweeted to @Vanarama and @ProstateUK with the hashtag #WearTheWig.

Barry Smith will also have a special new member of his squad for one day only as The Shots host Altrincham, with number 42 allocated to Men United in recognition of the 42,000 men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year.

James Beeby, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “Men United is about men joining together to fight a common opponent – prostate cancer. One man dies every hour from this disease but it’s been proven by taking this issue to football terraces up and down the land that we are starting to make a difference.

“The power of football consistently helps us reach out to men and their friends and families, and we are very grateful for the continued backing from Vanarama as we continue to raise money and awareness throughout the grassroots game in innovative ways. By teaming up with us once more they will play a vital role in saving lives.”

Andy Alderson, Managing Director of Vanarama, said: “We’re delighted to be once again supporting two very worthy causes. As National League sponsors we are proud to play our part in supporting Non-League Day. By partnering with Prostate Cancer UK we hope to raise as much as we can to support what is a vital charity, doing great work. We hope fans will have as much fun supporting the campaign as we will.”
