Shots Host Sutton In FA Cup

Aldershot Town will host Sutton United in the fourth qualifying round of the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday 24 October, after they beat Hemel Hempstead Town 2-1 in Monday night’s replay.

Wingers Ross Stearn and Dan Wishart scored at Gander Green Lane to seal the third qualifying round tie after Stearn had also scored in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Vauxhall Road.

Paul Doswell’s side are currently 11th in Vanarama National League South with 17 points from 12 games, having won two and drawn three of their six home games thus far. Doswell’s squad was captained on Monday by former Shots midfielder Jamie Collins and also featured three other ex ATFC players: goalkeeper Ross Worner, defender Simon Downer and striker Dan Fitchett.

There is also ample experience throughout the United squad, including former Bristol City and Swindon Town defender Kevin Amankwaah, Dean Beckwith, who won the Conference with Hereford United, ex Bournemouth defender Shaun Cooper, striker Craig Dundas – a veteran of nearly 400 appearances for Sutton – plus Stuart Fleetwood and Craig McAllister, renowned for their goals for Forest Green Rovers and Exeter City respectively.

Previously, United had beaten Bishop’s Stortford 2-0 in the second qualifying round.

Aldershot Town have met Sutton United twelve times in competitive games dating back to September 1998, winning four and losing three. The last League meeting was in April 2003, a 1-1 draw at Gander Green Lane as The Shots secured the Ryman Premier Division championship.

Aldershot FC met Sutton United twice, both in FA Cup first round ties, winning 4-0 in November 1963 but, famously, losing 3-0 in November 1987.

We will confirm full details of the fixture, including ticket prices, as soon as possible.
