Shots Sign Anderton On Loan

Aldershot Town have signed left-back Nick Anderton on a 28-day loan from Preston North End.

The 19 year-old, who stands 6ft 2 and is renowned as a superb crosser of the ball, has previously enjoyed loan spells at Chorley, Gateshead and, in December 2014, Barrow AFC.

Anderton, a second year professional who graduated from the Lilywhites’ Academy, suffered a broken leg in February, whilst playing at Barrow in Conference North, but returned to fitness at the end of May and has featured for North End’s first-team during pre-season. Prior to that, his professional debut had come in October 2014 as Gateshead won 2-1 against The Shots.

“This is a perfect move for me,” explained Anderton, whose progress has been monitored by The Shots since last season. “I need to be playing first-team football and with Preston being promoted to the Championship, I need another year of development before I can think of getting into the first-team at Deepdale. I’m really enjoying my football at the moment and I want to come here to get my head down and play some games.”

“With Sean McGinty injured, we felt that we needed a bit more defensive cover,” said Barry Smith. “Tom Richards has been excellent at left-back but we’d like to use him further forward. Nick is a player who Chris Barker knows and he will slot into the left-back position if called upon.”

Nick will wear shirt number 20 and is available for selection as The Shots travel to Cheltenham Town on Tuesday night.
