Keith Baker to be club guest for Bradford City game
Welcome return for 1992 legend
Aldershot Town FC are delighted to announce that the club's guest for this Saturday's match will be former defender Keith Baker.
Keith is one of the most popular players ever to represent Aldershot Town FC, and was a member of the starting line-up in the club's first ever competitive fixture against Clapton on 22nd August 1992.
Keith was already a vastly experienced defender in non-league circles when he joined The Shots at the age of 37 upon the new club's formation in the summer of 1992. He was appointed as assistant manager to Steve Wignall and became a virtual ever-present in the club's back four for the two and a half years he remained at The EBB Stadium.
Keith began his football career with his local side Hounslow Town in 1971. He then had spells with Ruislip Manor, Molesey, Southall (where he played alongside future West Ham United legend Alan Devonshire), Staines Town and Egham Town.
However it was with Shots' local rivals Farnborough Town that Keith made his name in the Rushmoor area. He signed at Cherrywood Road in 1984 and was a member of their Isthmian Leaguie Division One winning side in his first season at the club.
After four years with Farnborough Keith rejoined Egham Town but returned to the Boro less than a year later. Keith later had a spell at Chesham United before a third spell at Farnborough, joining The Shots in 1992.
Keith was a member of Aldershot Town's Isthmian League Division 3 winning team of 1992/3, and helped the club to a second successive promotion the following year, a season in which, alonside Steve Harris, Keith was voted the club's joint player of the year.
After Steve Wignall left the club in January 1995, Keith also departed and returned to Farnborough Town for a fourth spell and later had a short spell at Fleet Town before retiring from the game in 1996 at the age of 42.
Keith Baker made 137 appearances for Aldershot Town and scored two goals. His total of career appearances is well in excess of 1000 games, and he also holds the distinction of lining up alongside his son Neil, another ex-Shots player, in a Farnborough Town game in the latter stages of his career.
We are delighted that Keith has accepted the club's invitation to today's game and look forward to introducing him on the pitch at half-time during Saturday's game
