Dalai Lama Returns To Aldershot

The members of the Buddhist Community Centre UK and Aldershot Town are delighted to welcome His Holiness the Dalai Lama back to the Electrical Services Stadium on Monday 29 June 2015.

In opening the new Buddhist Community Centre UK, adjacent to the ESS, His Holiness will also deliver an address entitled ‘Buddhism in the 21st Century’ to an audience inside the stadium, before the performance of a traditional monk dance.

This will be the only public appearance in the south of the UK by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, during 2015.

“We want to celebrate the official opening of the Buddhist Community Centre UK and we are very honoured to have His Holiness in attendance for the second time,” said Kaji Sherpa, President of Buddhist Community Centre UK. “We have an excellent relationship with Aldershot Town FC and it makes sense for us to work with them to make this a successful event. I would like to thank Chairman Shahid Azeem for his continued support.”

“I would like to invite the entire community,” continued event organiser Harka Bahadur Gurung. “This event is not just for the Nepalese community, it is for everybody. We hope that the people of Rushmoor, including supporters of Aldershot Town, will join us in the presence of His Holiness and share our special day.”

The collaboration is part of the new partnership between Aldershot Town FC and Rushmoor’s Nepalese community, which also sees The Shots’ Academy compete in the Aaha RARA Gold Cup in Pokhara in February. Rushmoor-based Nepalese charity Sahara UK have been instrumental is seeing the community adopt Aldershot Town as their official Football Club.
