Associate Director Richard Petty steps down

The Board of Directors at Aldershot Town FC are sad to announce that, due to outside business commitments, long term Associate Director Richard Petty will stand down from his role at the end of January.

Richard has been an avid Shots supporter since 1995 and, after originally watching from the North Stand in 1997, joined what was then called the Ambassadors Club, the equivalent of our current Patrons Lounge.

In January 2008, Richard took over as Supporters Club Chairman following the untimely passing of club stalwart and previous Chairman, Paul Muddell.

In April 2009 Richard was approached by the incumbent Board of Directors to join the newly established Operational Board and, whilst endeavouring to maintain a balance between the Club and his own business, Richard has remained working with the Club throughout this time.

During this period, as an Associate Director and consultant, Richard has taken on the responsibility for overseeing the upkeep of the stadium, the clubs Health & Safety Policy and additionally for a period of time until May 2012 acted as General Manager dealing with all the day to day operations of the club.

Richard has made the decision to accept an external role with our Club sponsors, Knights Group.

Richard said: “This was a big decision for me, but the opportunity to work for the Knights Group in a new role that is of strategic importance to that business, along with the opportunity to further develop my skills and experience, was too good to turn down.

“I will certainly miss the direct involvement with ATFC, as the Club is a huge part of my life, and I would like to wish everyone involved with the Club, from the wonderful volunteers to the staff and the board, all the very best for the future.

“Be assured I will still be around on match days as a supporter shouting and cheering the team on as I will always be a Shots fan.”

Brian Bloomfield, on behalf of the Board, said: “Although sad to see Richard leave, we understand fully the rationale behind the decision and wish him all the best for the future. His time and commitment that he has shown whilst volunteering and subsequently working for the Club has been exemplary. He has become and shall remain a great friend of the Club.”
